Why Fly to South America?

The world’s fourth-largest continent, South America, includes 22 countries. Latin America is believed to have been joined with Africa about 25 million years ago when supercontinent Pangaea began rifting and breaking apart. About 15,000 years ago human migrated from Russia to South America through Bering Strait. However, the evidence of first human existence in the continent dates back to about 9000 BC, when the people started to cultivate squashes, chili pepper and beans for food at Amazon Basin. From 1949, Spanish and Portugal settlers came in the continent and started instilling their languages, religions into the Native American civilisation. From then on, Latin America has been dominated by Hispanic heritage and its culture.

South America has a total of seven climate zones of which remarkable are rainforest climate, grassland climate and desert climate. The climate of Brazil is characterised by heavy rainfall and humidity. Being situated in Southern hemisphere, the continent of Latin America observes summer, mainly from November to February and winter from May to August. The northern part of the continent has a tropical climate with hot and humid weather, while the southern part is colder.

Tourism has become a thriving industry in many South American countries. Various historical places, architectural wonders, stunning monuments, a wide array of food and culture, vibrant and lively cities, and breathtaking landscapes have been attracting millions of tourists every year. Some of the most visited places are Iguazu Falls, Machu Picchu, the Amazon rainforest, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Cuzco, Lima, Cartagena and many more. Festivals are one of the facets of the rich cultures of South America. Some notable festivals include the famous Carnaval that takes place in Rio de Janeiro every February or March; Festivals de la Candelaria that is celebrated in Bolivia and Peru every February; Tango Festival of Argentina, etc.
